The School of Science & Business, School of Business at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking candidates for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Finance.

Teaching responsibilities could include (but are not limited to) undergraduate and graduate courses in Finance, Investments, Financial Markets, International Financial Management, Financial Economics, Accounting, Advanced Excel, and other related courses as needed. The delivery modes will include on-campus, hybrid, and fully online and may include evening or weekend classes. When teaching during the Summer, compensation is 2.33% of the base nine-month salary at the close of the preceding academic term per ELU.

Other responsibilities include student advising, curriculum development, research, professional affiliations as appropriate, department and university committee assignments, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Initial appointment at the rank of assistant professor requires a terminal degree in Finance, Financial Economics or related field, or ABD, from an accredited institution.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Initial appointment at the rank of assistant professor requires a terminal degree in Finance, Financial Economics or related field, or ABD, from an accredited institution.
  • Applicants should have at least one year of experience teaching in higher education.
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Familiarity with distance learning technology (e.g. Zoom, integrated classroom technology
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.
  • Applicants should provide documented evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly activities.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Finance or Financial Economics from an accredited institution.
  • More than one year of teaching in higher education teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and supervising graduate students, including students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to teach more than one primary subject area e.g., finance AND at least one of the following: Business Statistics, Business Analytics, Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing, Management, Operations Management, Excel, Business Policy, Practical Research, or Business Planning.
  • Experience teaching both face-to-face and online classes.
  • Research agenda to facilitate tenure and promotion.
