James Madison University’s Department of Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics (CIS & BSAN) is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor for a tenure-track appointment beginning Fall 2024.

About the Department: The Department of CIS & BSAN is an academic unit of the College of Business and has 25 full-time faculty members, over 600 CIS majors in 3 concentrations (IS, Business Analytics, and Information and Cybersecurity Management), 80 CIS minors, and over 40 BSAN minors and growing. In addition, the department supports the college by providing core business classes in information systems, quantitative methods, business statistics, and operations management. The department places a primary emphasis on its undergraduate programs that includes hands-on projects, laboratory exercises, case analyses, and engaging classroom experiences designed to prepare graduates to work independently and in team-oriented environments. The CIS program is accredited by ABET making the department of one of only 10 CIS programs in the nation accredited by both the AACSB and ABET.

In addition to high involvement in undergraduate education, departmental faculty members play a vital role in the delivery of the Executive Leadership MBA, Innovation MBA, and Information Security MBA programs. Outside the academic community, faculty members maintain strong connections with the consulting industry in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Washington, D.C., and interact regularly with members of the department’s advisory board.

About the College: The AACSB-accredited College of Business includes nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. Recently, the Information Security MBA was recognized as #1 in the nation for the Best Online Information Security MBA Programs, and #16 in the Princeton Review’s list of the top 25 Online MBA Programs. The college includes the Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for Professional Selling, Small Business Development Center, Capital Markets Lab, Madison Consulting, and other programs focused on outreach and engagement with the business community. Our very successful alumni hold C-suite positions at major corporations including SAP, Fidelity, Bank of America, IBM, McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, KPMG, and other Fortune 500 companies and readily engage with the college. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • We are seeking a candidate whose primary teaching responsibility will be undergraduate courses in business analytics, business statistics, traditional IS courses, or other related subjects. The typical teaching load is 3/3. The successful candidate will be expected to substantively engage in academic and community service for the department, college, university, and the profession. The department fosters a collegial and collaborative team environment that supports student success and faculty development and growth.

Qualifications:

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in business analytics, information systems, or a closely related field, is required by date of appointment. Candidates must be able to demonstrate evidence of excellent teaching potential through course/teaching evaluations for courses taught or evidence of excellent performance as a teaching assistant. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate interest or have successful experience teaching in two or more of our areas of concentration: business analytics, information systems, and information and cybersecurity management.

In addition, candidates must demonstrate potential of performing scholarly work resulting in publications in quality peer-reviewed journals through a current research pipeline (e.g., working papers, journal submissions, revisions at quality journals).

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  A strong foundation in business applications is also preferred. Special consideration will be given to candidates with teaching and professional experience in developing analytics solutions using business contexts. A demonstrated commitment and contribution to diversity and inclusion through their research, teaching, or service is ideal.
