Overview

Empire State University’s School for Graduate Studies is currently seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting to start in August 2024. The successful candidate will have expertise in accounting and will serve as academic coordinator for a new online Master’s program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching and advising in the Division of Business, Management and Leadership, developing and teaching online courses in accounting, supervising capstone projects, and engaging in research and service. The successful candidate may also teach and engage in course development in other graduate and undergraduate programs as determined by need and availability.

The School for Graduate Studies serves over 1,000 students per year in several degree and certificate programs offered in online and blended formats. Our faculty are committed to meeting the needs of adult learners and are dedicated to mentoring, motivating, and supporting our graduate students through consistent advisement, engaging instruction, and continuous program improvement. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across the faculty role. We are particularly interested in applicants who can deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or D.B.A.) in accounting or related field from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or comparable non-U.S. college or university.  ABD considered.
  • An active commitment to scholarly work, or has the potential for, coherent and robust research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The desire and skills to engage with a diverse student body.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Real-world/industry work experience in accounting.
  • Prior experience with, or willingness to teach in an online course modality.
  • Demonstrable potential for, and preferably experience in, effectively teaching graduate-level accounting courses.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.

Special Information:

  • Office hours (primarily online) will vary to accommodate students’ needs.
  • Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university commitments.
