Overview

The Finance Department in the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is inviting applicants to apply for a tenure-track faculty position in real estate finance at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Orfalea offers an innovative and interdisciplinary undergraduate real estate finance curriculum, which integrates core finance courses (e.g., financial accounting, investments, fixed income securities, corporate finance) and courses from Architecture, Urban Economics, City and Regional Planning, and Construction Management.

Orfalea seeks a candidate to serve as the inaugural academic director of the Cal Poly Real Estate Initiative. The endowed Professorship in Community Development is supported by philanthropic funding that provides resources to realize the vision and objectives of the Cal Poly Real Estate Initiative, including funding to cover costs associated with research, conferences, workshops, student competitions, industry engagement, travel, and other related activities. The selected individual is expected to establish a robust applied research program, contribute to teaching, develop professional relationships with related academic departments, industry partners, government constituents, and oversee curriculum developments that prepares our students for employment in the growing and dynamic real estate sector in California. We invite applicants with teaching and research interests in these areas to apply. Additionally, candidates with industry (e.g. REITs) or regulatory agency (e.g. Fannie Mae) experience are especially encouraged to apply.

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Appointment at the Associate Professor rank is anticipated with a salary range of $139,500 to $154,200. Anticipated salary range for a Full Professor is $145,700 to $161,100.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The successful candidate must have completed a doctorate or equivalent degree in Finance or a closely related field (e.g., economics) from an accredited institution. Applicants are expected to demonstrate exemplary teaching, a strong publication record and research pipeline, and currency in the real estate field. Applicants must have the ability to work with diverse students and engage diversity in the curriculum. The candidate must demonstrate a track record of and/or plan for incorporating curricular coverage of areas related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as to promote inclusive teaching strategies. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required.
